It is with great appreciation and sadness that I announce my retirement and the subsequent closing of the Awakening Center on March 31, 2022. I founded The Awakening Center in 1994, and during the past 28 years, it has served as the premier holistic Eating Disorder practice in Chicago. After my own recovery, I understood the obstacles that can stand in the way for people seeking recovery and trying to be the best version of themselves that they were meant to be. So, over the years, I have done my best to pave the way to recovery for my clients. I have also had the privilege of mentoring many therapists in training. I derived great pleasure from sending well-prepared clinicians out into the world, knowing that I was able to share my insight so they could care for their clients. Many former interns stayed on at The Awakening Center to begin their careers as therapists. I so enjoyed collaborating and sharing my experience with them. While The Awakening Center will no longer exist, my colleagues Sheana Tobey, Erin Channel, Karlee Pinto, and Nancy Hall will continue working at the same location on Lincoln Avenue. (Their contact info is below.) And you can still find many therapists in the Chicago area and beyond who have trained under my supervision. I am so honored to know that the values and mission of The Awakening Center reach far beyond my office door. People have asked me what I plan on doing now I am retired. I inherited half of my family summer home in Wisconsin and plan to spend a lot of time with family and friends kayaking and swimming! I want to continue to learn new things, first up is Spanish! My friends have given me what I need to learn to knit – and I plan to make some cute sweaters for my sweet rescue dog Sugar! I also plan to do some meaningful volunteer work! I will fill many hours tending my gardens: flowers and vegetables and herbs – my spiritual connection to Mother Earth. Most of all, I want to travel! (Suggestions are welcome!) I look forward to my retirement but will keep myself active in the therapy community. I will resurrect my blog: “Inner Wisdom.” – (link below). I’m looking into starting a podcast – although I find technology daunting! (Eeek!) I plan to lead workshops on a variety of topics. I may look into teaching at a local university. I am interested in setting up speaking engagements around the country, especially about my book. (Did you know my book is being translated to Korean? And being recorded as an Audio book? We’re looking into having it translated to Spanish as well!) I will keep you all posted of future events. If you would like to be on my email list – please send an email to: healingpartbypart@gmail.com. Thank you for being a part of the most rewarding career I could have imagined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
