A Note From Amy Grabowski, Founder and Director of The Awakening Center:
“For more than 20 years, I have been helping clients discover a healthy balance, a feeling of purpose, and a sense of inner peace. Having experienced recovery myself, I can empathize with the difficulties that clients face during recovery. Eating disorders are not about food, eating or weight. Eating disorders stem from a lack of a sense of ‘Self’, which causes one to feel empty, disconnected and out of control of life. Using a holistic approach, which challenges the eating disorder from all aspects of life, my staff and I help our clients recover their true sense of Self, and learn to honor, eventually to love, the person they were meant to be. We feel honored to be allowed as guides on our clients’ journey to full recovery. We have a passion to help our clients reach their goals and will stick with them even through the roughest patches.
Before I founded The Awakening Center in 1994, there were no outpatient eating disorder treatment programs in Chicago. As a State Board member of ANAD and a longtime member of The Academy for Eating Disorders, I felt compelled to establish the first treatment center for eating disorders in the city. I am now proud to say The Awakening Center has become nationally recognized and respected for providing a unique “user friendly” treatment approach that focuses on the individual needs of each client.
The Awakening Center’s positive reputation also includes commitments to healing the earth and our environment by being a ‘Green Company’. We also believe in the Karma of “paying it forward” by providing affordable fees to underinsured clients and participating regularly in community outreach pro bono.
We are here to assist you to make the first steps in your recovery. You are not alone any longer! Break out of the isolation and despair and gain hope that full recovery is possible for you!
